Purpose of the role

The Operations and Safeguarding Manager role will support the CEO in the development of new projects and the day-to-day management of Stomping Grounds North East CIO (the Company), with a focus on team management and safeguarding. It is key that the successful candidate can work at least some of the school holidays. 

Main responsibilities

  • To work with the Executive Director to ensure projects and delivery adhere to the Company’s vision, mission and values.
  • To implement new projects and sessions to meet the Company’s aims and objectives.
  • To proactively work with staff, both remotely and in the woods to provide line management and team development.
  • To ensure the smooth running of our Term Time and Holiday Activity across multiple North East sites, including safeguarding of young people.
  • To be proactive and maintain requirements for governing bodies, associations and memberships, including but not limited to as Forest School Association, Ofsted and Therapeutic Forest.
  • To develop and support the implementation of effective evaluation and impact monitoring processes, including annual reporting of the impact of Stomping Grounds work.
  • To lead or support in delivery of core Stomping Grounds sessions.
  • To risk assess each site, equipment, session and activity in line with Stomping Grounds Risk Assessment procedure.
  • To liaise with community, parent or school in the planning and delivery of a session.
  • To deliver high quality Forest School, in line with Stomping Grounds vision.
  • To observe participants and write up observations to share as appropriate with partners, funders, schools, parents or community groups.
  • To take photographs (in line with GDPR policy) of a session and post a review on social media.
  • To ensure training is up to date and relevant, including but not limited to safeguarding, first aid and food hygiene.
  • To share information regarding planning and delivery with support assistants.
  • To direct support assistants to ensure resources are used appropriately and with the greatest impact during a session.
  • To carry out other duties compatible with the role purpose as reasonably required or as directed by the CEO, for example duties to ensure that the contracted hours are delivered.

Person Specification

Essential 

  • Experience of working with children and young people, particularly those with neurodivergence and/or who are not currently thriving in mainstream schools.
  • Experience of coordinating and line management of a diverse staff team.
  • Experience as a Designated Safeguarding Lead.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Excellent understanding of neurodivergence.
  • Flexibility to work during school holidays.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all seasons.
  • Ability to travel to our multi region sites including but not restricted to: Prudhoe, Haltwhistle, Chopwell, Leadgate, Benwell and Gateshead Riverside.
  • Commitment to Stomping Grounds Mission and Values.

Desirable 

  • Level 3 forest school Practitioner, or commitment to undertake training.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Experience working outdoors.
  • Paediatric Outdoor First Aid, or commitment to undertake training.
  • Experience of working in the charitable sector.
  • SENCo experience/qualifications.
  • Experience of project management.
  • Experience of Ofsted

Salary

£39,366 per annum

Hours and terms

35 hours per week (1 FTE

Location

Office in Chopwell. Ability to travel to our multi region sites including but not restricted to: Prudhoe, Haltwhistle, Chopwell, Leadgate, Benwell and Gateshead Riverside
