Wecan is a small local charity based in Hexham, Northumberland supporting children and young people with additional and complex health needs to access leisure activities and events in the community.

The organisation is currently seeking Support Workers to assist the children and young people to access activities and participate in socialisation with peers, support may also include elements of personal care.

Applicants will ideally hold or be working towards an NVQ (or equivalent) in a Childcare related subject and must be able to commit to working Saturdays during term time.  A current valid DBS certificate is preferable but not essential.

The nature of this work means that applicants must be willing to routinely work outside normal office hours, including some early morning, evenings and weekends. We offer excellent training and continued development including the opportunity to study towards higher level full NVQ qualifications in Health and Social Care.

Evie Greenstreet, researcher on Raise the Roof, an hour-long Channel 4 documentary about hidden homelessness  wants to contact charities and organisations that support families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness with the aim of chatting with you about your organisation and how you support families.  The programme will be presented by Phil Spencer, most known as one of the UK’s best-loved presenters on Location, Location, Location and Love It or List It, although Phil has also been a patron of St Mungo’s homelessness charity in London for many years, campaigns to help communities get empty homes back into use, and is passionate about eradicating homelessness in the UK.  This current project is one that he developed and championed with the channel. 


Evie said, “We are very keen to talk to families and individuals who are going through eviction, living in temporary accommodation and trying to navigate through the private rental market in the UK.  We’re particularly interested in how welfare reform and the overheated market affects people working in low-paid, insecure jobs.  Telling their stories will undoubtedly be the strongest way of highlighting the stress and appalling conditions faced by many searching for a safe, clean place to live.   It’s perhaps worth saying that for this programme, we are focusing on the hidden homelessness of people living in temporary accommodation rather than rough sleeping.
