New European Social Fund (ESF) funding opportunities have been launched which may be of interest to voluntary and community sector groups in Northumberland.  The funding available is part of the European Structural Investment Fund which is available to the region and focuses on employability and skills. 


The deadlines for the Outline Application are very tight so please review the call closure deadline on each call.  The calls are focusing on:
 

1. North East Employment Support for Young People 18- 29 

ESF investment through this call is focussed on providing support to increase employment for young people aged 18-29 who are unemployed and claim out of-work benefits or who are workless and not claiming a benefit. 
 
Projects responding to this call should deliver activities in Northumberland, North Tyneside, Newcastle, Gateshead, South Tyneside and Sunderland areas only and should not include participants resident in Durham. 
 
Indicative Funding Allocation: Approximately £3,000,000 ESF 
Call Closes: 25th September 2017
 
(The Managing Authority does not intend to allocate less than £150,000 of European Social Funding to any single project).

2. North East Ambition Pilot - Strategic Framework

Proposals should focus on tackling the education challenges faced in the North East by setting up and implementing a strategic framework which will bring together educators, businesses and local communities to help transform the education system to meet industry needs.
 
Indicative Fund Allocation: Approximately £3,000,000 ESF 
Call Closes: 23 October 2017.
 
(The Managing Authority does not intend to allocate less than £50,000 (or figure can be higher but not less than £50k) of European Social Funding to any single project).

3. North East Ambition Pilot - Tailored Training

‘North East Ambition Pilot - Developing and Delivering Tailored Training for Employees in Education Establishments’ launched simultaneously and expected to align with the 2.2 North East Ambition Pilot Strategic Framework Call. Proposals should focus on providing leadership and management skills development for individuals who are in, or moving to leadership roles within North East LEP area education establishments. Indicative Fund Allocation: Approximately £3,000,000 ESF 
Call Closes: 23rd October 2017 (The Managing Authority does not intend to allocate less than £300,000 of European Social Funding to any single project although, mindful of the expected call value in the Transitional Region, slightly smaller proposals may be considered if their focus of activity is Durham.)

4. North East Specialist Support for Unemployed / Inactive 

Projects will provide intensive support to unemployed and inactive residents with health conditions acting as barriers to labour market participation through provision of tailored and integrated health and work support. Also additional intensive support to unemployed and inactive residents aged 50+ who have a health condition and/or other barriers preventing them from entering the labour market. Projects can apply for one or both of the proposed areas of activity under this call. Indicative Fund Allocation: Approximately £6,000,000 ESF

5. Digital Skills  

 

Proposals will be expected to support digital skills development within the digital /tech sector and/or across the general workforce where this enhances opportunities for job progression and development.

Proposals should focus on addressing the specific digital skills gaps experienced by employers.

Indicative Fund Allocation: Approximately £20,000,000 ESF 

Call Closes: 23rd October 2017

(Applications would be expected that request a minimum of £500,000 of ESF: however, mindful of the expected call value in the Transitional Region, smaller proposals would be considered if their main focus of activity is Durham.)

The Northumberland Technical Assistance Team at Northumberland County Council will also be hosting an ESF call information event on Thursday 17th August here at County Hall, Morpeth. This will provide prospective applicants a briefing of the calls now launched, what areas they will address and how a potential application for funding should be approached.  There will also be time for questions and networking and to speak to the TA team directly.
